Lori's Trike
Donation protected
Lori was a very active, seemingly healthy 44 year old who's world changed drastically March 13, 2016. She simply coughed that morning and felt her back collapse and excruciating pain. As it turned out, she was correct to think her back had literally broken!
The 1st surgeon she saw in Albany patted her hand and said he couldn't fix it and sent her home for 6 weeks of "bed rest". She could barely walk and needed to finance an adjustable bed, install bars in the bathroom, get a walker, backbrace and many other uncovered medical expenses.
Eventually Lori got a second opinion and a surgeon who recognized that she had nerve damage and that leaving her like that was not acceptable. He was able to do a bilateral laminectomy and a fusion of her L4 to her S1 with rods and screws. Her L5 is mostly gone so she continues to be in pain and at risk of fusion failure.
This year has been filled with appointments with specialists all over the state. They are unsure why she has SEVERE osteoporosis and a very rare burst fracture but are working on getting her strong again.
The doctors and physical therapist told her she can never run or ride her road racing bike again, causing Lori to lose the activities she loves. They did agree however, that a recumbent trike would be a good alternative for her and encouraged her to get one.
That brings me to the purpose of this page. Recombant trikes, with the needed shock absorption and the features she needs will cost $4,000-$5,000. A lot of money after a year of unforeseen medical and home expenses.
It is difficult to ask for help, especially financial help and those who know Lori know that she is a giver. She gives of her time, money and assistance whenever anyone needs something. It is her turn to be taken care of.
Please help with whatever you can spare. Lori needs to get back living, working and caring for others and this could be one step towards getting there! Thank you so much for your support.
