Lorinda, Lucy and Leeloo

The last few years have been difficult for everyone, but some have been affected more than others, and our dear friend Lorinda is no exception. This past Christmas, Lorinda’s mom, with whom she lived, passed away unexpectedly. Then, in June, her position was eliminated from the organization she worked for, through no fault of her own, leaving her unemployed.

Lorinda has been fortunate to secure a lease through March of 2023 at a discounted rate but is having difficulty making ends meet. Lorinda’s rent is lower than the average for Asheville, but she has not yet been able to pay October rent, and November is quickly approaching. Lorinda has also not received any unemployment funds, as her claim is still processing. She is searching for a roommate and working intermittently as well.

Lorinda is a fantastic dog mom to her pup Leeloo. Before her mother’s passing, when she could work remotely, Lorinda also adopted Lucy- a sweet Shih Tzu with separation anxiety- as her mom's companion. Due to her condition, Lucy requires significant care and attention.

Because of this combination of factors, Lorinda and her little fur family need our help. We are aiming to raise $5,000 to cover the next few months rent so they can stay in their apartment, especially through the holidays. By mitigating these financial stresses, we can help give Lorinda time and space to grieve her loss while helping Lucy learn to trust and giving them all a safe place to land.
