Our mom and sister, Lori Alcorn Fink, was diagnosed with early/aggressive breast cancer February 2018. She's completed surgery, started chemotherapy last week (3 months worth), has 6+ weeks of upcoming radiation treatments, followed by 5-10 years of hormone therapy/oral chemo.
At this point, we are uncertain if Lori will be able to work, due to the nature of her job. She's an Early Intervention specialist who works with children from the age of Birth to 5 years (whom we all know can be cute little germ carriers). The problem with that is the possible exposure to illness: If Lori becomes sick and is unable to continue her treatments at the precise time, it would reduce the effects of chemo killing the cancer. Chemo is also VERY draining and can literally knock a person down. Lori truly wants to work, but is very fearful of catching something while in treatment.
Unfortunately, Lori's job doesn't provide sick/vacation time.
Her out-of-pocket expenses for her biopsy, MRI, testing, and surgery total about $8,500 (all prior to chemo bills).
We are reaching out to help take some of the burden off of them. We have been asked how people can help, and feel this is the best possible way.
Her husband, Jim, has been working as much overtime as possible, while still helping Lori at home. They moved to the Myrtle Beach area a couple years ago and have no local family.
Anyone who knows Lori, knows she is a caring, loving, and selfless person who has helped strangers and friends alike, making this a very hard and humbling situation.
Lori has a lot to go through these next few months and although she is a very strong woman, her strength is about to be tested. Let's help her fight this, by letting her know how loved she is by all of us.
Thank you for your continued prayers, thoughts, gifts and support...they are appreciated more than we could ever express.
