My name is Tymberlee and I have a friend who is like my sister. We were introduced about 8 years ago through a prayer chain that we both were part of. A group of ladies were asked to pray for our health issues, which were similar. Her sister Vikki, and our youth pastor's wife, Lisa Holland, was part of this prayer group and thought that I should call her sister for someone to lean on; our symptoms were earily similar. I called her that day. We spoke for aprox. 6 hours, crying, laughing, praying, and consoling one another. Have you ever met someone and right away felt like they were family? Well, Lori was and continues to be my soul sister.
I am asking for help for my friend Lori Doud who needs both prayer and financial assitance.
For Lori, her health issues started with a sprained ankle, no, I'm not kidding. She has a rare condition that is called RSD / Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. It starts with an injury. The injury turns into inflammation that spreads like a cancer, destroying and inflaming the nerves in the body. The pain is intense. There is no cure for this. RSD is truly a worste case scenario diagnosis.
Lori has had a pain pump implanted in her side, as well as well as 2 Neuro Spinal Cord Stimulator Implants to help bypass the pain receptors.
With the PAIN PUMP comes management of the Pain Pump for as long as she has it. Once a month visits to Pain Mangement Specialist plus the pump refills every 3-4 months are very expensive. $750 every 3-4 months for pump refill. $200 per month for pump analysis/programming. She's had several injections/procedures performed by this specialist over the past year. Those run anywhere from $500-$1000 a piece. She owes $6,500 to this specialist alone after insurance.
Lori has had multiple sessions of physical therapy and chiropractic for years, as well as multiple appts with psychiatrists and clinial counselors, since 2008, to help cope with the pain. Many of the medical bills have been sent to collections.
Lori and her family live in Tillamook, 70+ miles away from Portland where she drives to 3+ days a week for her appointments/$25 round trip. Copays for appointments range from $25 to $45 for specialists. On average $300 per month for copays. The Doud family has roughly$20,000 of medical debt, and pay out of pocket about $400 a month, which doesn't begin to cover the minimum payments, causing some bills to go to collections. This does not include the monthly bill for her prescriptions.
Why am I asking for help now?
Lori has developed Degenerative Disk Disease, Spinal Stenosis and a Herniated Disk. This makes the drives to Portland unbearable as you can imagine, and because she has RSD, the pain is magnified by 100. In order to make it to her minimal appointments and to guarantee her ability to stay mobile she must have surgery.
Lori's surgery is scheduled April 30, 2015. In just 2 weeks. The plan is to go in through her stomach, and to use a scope through her back to guide the surgery. It requires a Neuro-surgeon as well as a Vascular surgeon to perform the proceedure. A normal patient would spend a few days in the hospital for such a surgery, for Lori and her RSD, her surgeries cause the syndrome to flair up, inevitably making her surgery stays twice as long. She has had 8 surgeries since receiving her RSD diagnosis.
Lori needs serious prayer and financial help. Lori and I are both pastor's daughters, and Lori herself is a pastor's wife. I know from experience that when your in the ministry it is easy to pray for miracles and needs for others, giving your last penny to help where it is needed, which describes my sister Lori and her husband to a tea. Sometimes people in the ministry need miracles too, a prayer, a hug, a laugh, a financial helping hand. Many times ministers leave their hurdles and needs at the door in order to help the helpless.
Today I am asking that you search your heart and make a difference. Instead of buying that coffee today, please offer a few dollars to this family in need. Let the Lord use us to provide a miracle.
