Lori Zwiers Motorcycle Accident 06-30-2021
Hi my name is Saraya, and I am looking for donations, prayers, and words of encouragement to help support my mom with her medical expenses, and keep up with bills that will soon be fixed on a one person income versus two, as well as help take care of my brother and sister.
On the night of June 30th around 9 p.m. my mom was a passenger on the back of a motorcycle that was involved in a near fatal accident on County Hwy Y near Antigo. She was unresponsive when rescue crews arrived. She was airlifted to Aspirus with life threatening injuries. Once she arrived in the ICU they learned she had scattered brain bleeds, abrasions on her arm, legs, and face, needed 4 stitches above her eye. They soon put her on a ventilator and feeding tube so they could put her in an induced coma to help stabilize her. She was in an induced coma for a couple days until they decided to take her off until she could wake up on her own. It was a long couple days, but one day, she finally opened an eye!
Next update is from July 8th. They found she had a traumatic brain injury and needed to be sent to a traumatic brain injury facility. We learned she had an occipital fracture. They then used EEG to monitor her brain activity, and they ordered a cervical scan sometime soon once the swelling goes down. In the meantime she is in a cervical collar 24/7 to support her neck and spine and limit her head movement.
Another update on July 10th: The physician assistant to the neurologist said there was a brain bleed in the brain stem and those are not good. According to her, Lori will probably never regain full strength of her left side; it's kind of like she had a severe stroke without having the stroke because of the bleed in that part of her brain from the accident.
July 14, she had surgery for the placement of a peg feeding tube to replace her nose feeding tube. Her left eye still doesn’t open and her whole left side is still not operable. She currently cannot talk. If we ask her to squeeze our hand she does, and let me tell you that right hand still has a lot of muscle. Now that the peg feeding tube has been placed, we are waiting to hear from a traumatic brain facility that will accept her.
