Lori Rey fight against SCLC (Stage IV Lung Cancer)
My name is Kimberly Rey. I am starting this GoFundMe to help support my beautiful mother, Lori Rey, as she as just been diagnosed with an ugly, and unfortunate disease we all know as cancer, specifically Stage IV Metastatic Lung Cancer, otherwise known as Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). I will tell you more about her story below...
A little bit about my mom: She is formally known as Lorraine M. Hyslop, now goes by Lori Rey. She is 54 years young with 2 kids, Kimmie Rey - 24 and Stephane Rey-29. She works at David Scott Salon and has been working as a cosmetologist for over 30+ years. She is such a people-person and continues, till this day, to express the great joy her clients, friends, and family brought into her life. My mother is the strongest, most independent and spiritual woman I know and I continue to pray for her healing each and every day....
"Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise."
Jeremiah 17:14
My mother was hurt several weeks ago after falling and hurting her back. After days of not being able to get around and no relief with her pain, she made an appointment with a family friend ours who is a Nurse Practitioner in Spartanburg. Unfortunately, after ordering and completing a CAT Scan to diagnose the injury with her back (vertebra/dislocated disk injury), we were shocked to discover the doctors had found cancer in several of my mothers major organs, including her pancreas, liver, and both kidneys. As you could imagine, this news was devastating...
Trying to keep my head up for both my mother and I, the Urologist we had seen referred us to a great surgical Oncologist, Christophe Nguyen MD, who is also located in Spartanburg out of the Gibbs Cancer Center. On March 18th, we saw Dr. Nguyen to discuss our next step. The doctor did not want to say anything for certain, but did state that in his professional opinion, with the cancer being seen in more than one location, this typically results in the cancer being stage IV.... Furthermore, after one of the hardest conversations I have been a part of, Dr. Nguyen set up a biopsy to go in surgically to sample the cancer to diagnose the specifics and to try and determine where the cancer had originated. After the procedure, Dr. Nguyen told me while he was in surgery he suspected that the cancer could actually be coming from the lungs... You can not imagine what is going through my mind at this point.
March 20th, while I was back at work, I got a unexpected and heartbreaking phone call about my mother. The doctor called to let us know he had received the biopsy results. My mother has officially been diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Lung Cancer, otherwise known as Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC).
I am asking anyone and everyone to pray for my mother and our family during this unimaginable time. Any donations would be a tremendous blessing and would help more than I can put into words.
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
