Hi. My name is Sandy Strait and I’m raising funds to help my daughter Lori Strait. She is a huge sports fan and was watching a DU Hockey game on October 7th, when a puck came flying into the stands and hit her right in the mouth. It broke out some of her teeth, broke her nose, and badly cut open her lip that required 5 stitches in one place and glue in the other.
She’s had quite a bit of pain with it and is slowly healing now. The worst part is the dental expenses for the extractions and crowns and now artificial teeth. (Your ticket to every sporting event says they do not cover accidents to fans, that you are there at your own risk, so they won’t help with medical expenses at all.)
She has insurance that covers some expenses, but not nearly all. Her part will be at least $5,000 and maybe more.
Lori has Cerebral Palsy and Crohn’s Disease which has greatly affected her life in the last few years. She graduated from college and worked for several years as a systems engineer but hasn’t been able to work for over three years now.
She had to quit work and move in with us at that time. She has multiple handicaps as a result of her dad’s exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. Her dad had cancer and her sister (now deceased) also had a birth defect.
She has always been a very positive person and worked so hard to graduate from college twice and learn to drive and live on her own for twelve years. She was an outstanding employee at Digitech Systems in DTC, until she became so sick with Crohn’s Disease that she could no longer work.
Her only outlet now is going to a few sports games in Denver. She spends most of her time in infusion treatment for severe Crohn’s Disease which is an autoimmune disease with no cure.
Lori now has this small helmet with a face shield for hockey games in case another puck comes her way. She’s also a huge Broncos and Rockies fan, but doesn’t get to go very often now.
She’d sure like to have her big smile back! She’s been such a positive role model through the years for all people with disabilities as she’s come so far in her life through working very hard in school and on the job. Easter Seals taught her how to walk and to talk when none of the doctors gave her a chance to even lift her head off the pillow because she was born with only about half of her brain. But Lori is a warrior First Class!
Please help her get that wonderful smile back. God bless you for any help you can give.
