Hello, my name is Loren Kraut and I am a comedian, based in San Francisco. I’ve been collaborating with my friend, Randall Whitehead, to write a one act show A BIT TOUCHED that demonstrates how I use humor to deal with OCD, along with other of my persistent, yet amusing afflictions like depression and suicidal tendencies. You might say we’re putting the fun back in dysfunctional.

I have the opportunity to take a six month long class that will help finish the script, create the blocking, lighting and set design. The workshop culminates in a live performance before an audience, which will be videotaped and we will then use to further refine the show. The tuition for the program is $3000. Thanks to you all, we are a little over a third of the way there!

It would mean so much to be able to take this workshop and create this piece. As a stand-up comedian, I’ve explored my struggles around OCD, depression and cancer, trying to present them in a funny light so people might understand what it’s like from my perspective, and hopefully helps them in their own life. This show we’re creating is about how the negative aspects that shaped my life can be used for good. How comedy has played a major role in keeping me afloat. How humor is vital to our being human.

Here’s a little example from the script:
“This morning I experienced a new pinnacle in OCD anxiety. I dropped a half piece of toast – which had been slathered with peanut butter – face down on the kitchen floor. After some initial debate over the gloomy necessity of saying goodbye to that piece of toast, I threw it away. But then, while I was making another half piece of toast, I ate the first one. Now, this may appear harmless. But it was the left side of the slice, not the right. And as everyone knows, you are supposed to eat the right side first, then the left side. This was deeply troubling, and not a good way to start your day.”

Thank you for any support that you’re able to provide. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
And there are gifts for your giving, too, as our way of saying THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
