Support for Lorelai Corrigan and family
Donation protected
On February 14, 2021, Lorelai, a student from the Eleanor Roosevelt High School family, was in a tragic ski accident while in Colorado with her family. She was airlifted by helicopter to St. Mary’s in Grand Junction which is a level 2 trauma center. After initial assessments and emergency orthopedic surgery, her condition began to lessen. They then transported her on a life flight from Grand Junction to Children’s Hospital of Denver.
Lorelai suffered numerous critical injuries to her face and head, a bilateral pneumothorax (two collapsed lungs), fatty embolisms from emergency orthopedic surgery to repair her broken femur, and fractured C7 vertebrae. Thankfully, Lorelai is making good progress and the doctors are hopeful for her recovery. However, Lorelai is just beginning her road to recovery, and she faces a very long road of physical therapy and rehabilitation.
Being far from their home in Southern California presents some very unique challenges for Lorelai and her family as they must remain in Denver until Lorelai is stable enough to travel home. This leaves them far from their support system of family, friends, and community during this difficult time. Transportation, flying back and forth between Denver and home, meals, hotels, and medical expenses will add up very quickly. Once she is home, Lorelai will need to continue intense rehabilitation, which can also be very costly. There are also significant concerns regarding what insurance will cover as all of this is out-of-network treatment in Denver, her life flights, and her continuous care when she has returned home.
In such a difficult time, financial support from our community is the best way to help alleviate much of the added stress and medical costs for the Corrigan family. Anything is helpful and a true blessing.
