We are raising money to cover startup costs of our online store featuring dog products. A portion of the product sales proceeds will be donated to canine cancer research and awareness.
Lord Murray Barkington was more than just our dog. From the day we adopted him, he was our child. Our world revolved around him, and we loved him more than words can say. On July 2, 2023 our precious boy died after battling cancer. He was only 7 years old. The heartache of losing a four-legged child to cancer is something that far too many dog parents experience.
Before Lord Barkington got sick, we were vaguely aware that dogs could get cancer, but that was all we knew. Humans have huge advertising campaigns to make people aware of the existence of various types of human cancers and to promote cancer screening. These campaigns are relatively non-existent for canine cancer in spite of the fact that cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs.
We have started a website to raise awareness about canine cancer to help other dogs avoid Lord Barkington's sad fate. You may view our website here . We are sharing the knowledge we gained during Lord Barkington's cancer journey with dog owners everywhere. As with human cancer, time is of the essence. Delays in diagnosis can be fatal, but cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence. Early detection and prompt treatment can save lives. Dog owners who are educated about canine cancer are better able to take steps towards prevention and early detection. In addition, we have a goal to ensure that veterinarians have the proper continued training and access to information they need to accurately make cancer diagnoses and quickly begin treatment.
We are trying to raise money to turn our website into an actual business and expand it to include an online store. We would like to create a unique shop of thoughtfully selected dog toys, clothing, accessories, and dog-themed home goods. Many of these items will feature our original artwork created in the likeness of Lord Barkington (see sample digital mock-ups in photos). Selling items featuring our logos will create branding which will help spread our message about canine cancer. Plus, a portion of sales proceeds from our shop will be donated to canine cancer research and awareness.
The money we raise here will be used to cover startup expenses such as business filings, insurance, furnishing our office, purchasing packing supplies, and ordering product stock. If we somehow raise more than our goal, we will put the money towards renting a warehouse facility which will enable us to offer more products. As we continue to grow, our long-term goal is to add our own non-profit division to our brand. This could possibly include a grants program for dogs with cancer and an educational database.
