We created this GoFundMe to support Liam Dahl and his parents as they step into this long battle.

❤️ Liam’s Story

Liam Dahl is a 12-year-old sixth grader at Moose Lake School, and just recently our family received news we never imagined we would hear. He has been diagnosed with Stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive form of childhood cancer. This came as a complete shock to all of us.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Liam went in for what was supposed to be a routine annual checkup. During the appointment, his doctor noticed unusually high blood pressure, which led to further testing. After several appointments and scans, we received the unimaginable news—cancer.

Anyone who knows Liam knows what a sweet soul he has. He’s the kid who stops to help others, who includes everyone, and who always has a kind word or smile ready. He loves spending time with his friends and is endlessly patient, caring, and helpful. It’s devastating to watch someone with such a loving heart, face something so overwhelming, but we believe deeply in his courage and his ability to push through this battle.

Liam is now preparing to begin a vigorous and difficult course of treatment and surgery, and his parents, Ben and Jill, plan to be by his side every minute of this fight.

❤️ A Family Already Hit Hard This Year-

This diagnosis comes during an already devastating year for Liam and his family.

• Last summer, Liam suddenly lost his grandfather, Gene Putney, to a heart attack.

• Only a couple of months later, his grandmother, Delaine Putney, was diagnosed with cancer and requires intensive care.

Liam’s parents, Ben and Jill, both work for the State of Minnesota:

• Ben works at the Moose Lake Correctional Facility.

• Jill works at the MSOP treatment facility.

They used much of their paid leave caring for Delaine, and now they are facing the need for constant hospital travel and extended time away from work while supporting Liam through treatment.

This family has carried more than any family should in such a short time, and now they are facing their greatest challenge yet.
