Lord Chris 'Fluff' Etheridge
Fluff was known as many things...
A marathon drinker, a ladies man, a huge tart, a laugh - and most obviously, a postie.
He was fantastic company and I was lucky to get to know him outside of work. Behind his famous bravado and upbeat nature was a lovely, genuine guy. He could be the best person for meaningful chats or a fantastic distraction from the world with his sense of humour.
His diagnosis of cancer changed none of this. Painful surgeries and treatments did nothing to stem his positive nature or his ability to laugh and joke. He was truly one in a million.
During our chats he mentioned that, once he felt able to; he'd like to give back to charity. This is something he had done years before for Cancer Research UK with a skydive, but he still wanted to do more.
As a fellow (ex) Woodbridge postie I want to honor his memory and complete the fundraiser he couldn't. To do this... I will be walking from the furthest point in IP12 at Bawdsey to the furthest point of IP13 near Laxfield. With an estimated time of 10hrs 15, I fully expect this to be the worst idea I've ever come up with (and there's some real contenders). I'm going to do this on December 26th 2024 in the hopes I'm still pissed enough it hurts less.
I've not been in a gym since high-school and the only running I do is away from problems. I fully expect to be a crippled mess but I want to do this for him. Anything you can give is appreciated.
RIP Chris. Xxx
