Looking for a Little Help from our Friends:Health issues
Donation protected
Jeff is known as a master builder, magnificent drummer, supercalafrajalisticespialodocious Dad to JeremiahTheEskimo and Shawn, Poppa to many, many rescue cats, and the best husband on the planet. He has had health issues these past couple of months which have prevented him from doing what he loves... working a little bit, just enough to supplement our fixed social security income. He officially retired on 8/1/24 (no more liabilty ins, bond, contractor registration and business license expenses...he sold his beloved truck that you see in the picture after his stroke when his future was unknown (4 yrs ago)
His recent health status has affected us in ways where utility companies have sent shut-off notices that I overlooked (priority: Jeff), and I missed a dental appointment. Basically, we are struggling to pay our bills currently, and these health issues now mean additional medical expenses for tests and two insulins (large copays).
I will be as transparent as needed; he has been anemic, dehydrated, lost 18 lbs in one month, but did regain 10 lbs after removing Jardiance from his medication list and adding two different types of insulin (grateful for the weight gain). These insulin prescriptions are $105 each (think they last for 2-3 months, depending on adjustments being made). He is exhausted but insists on doing a few of the chores. He also has two positive tests for blood in the stool. He is scheduled for a combo of endoscopy and colonoscopy on 9/11 (it got moved from 9/17 to 9/11); we are awaiting a call to schedule a CT scan of the abdomen ($225 copay).
I am applying for different forms of assistance (utilities and Puget Sound Energy). Yes, I could work, and that is my plan, but after Covid when I lost my job, it opened both of our eyes to the fact that we have lost over 30 cats, and some we have gotten home from work and gone right to an emergency vet to let them go... we could have been with them/should have... so, I plan to return to work after Hankie and Artie have left for the Rainbow Bridge. They are both elderly with health issues; Hank has a heart murmur, kidney disease, and renal cysts (these have been getting drained monthly for 3-4 years). We had been paying $109/month for that drainage, but now he is having it done every 10-13 days, so it is three times that expense, and it goes without saying, his time is shortening.
Artie is in Cat Haven (only cat left) with a heart condition; she gets two meds in her food; we spend 3-5 hours/day between the two of us with her (she has tamed down over the past four years with us, and she loves to sit in the big building in an old chair on our laps and be brushed... she even learned how to purr).
Let's put it this way: our SS income covers all our expenses except for groceries (which include cat food and litter) and now additional vet expenses due to Hank going from 1-3 visits/month for his health and "surprise" meds and tests/procedures with copays. Yes, we have been told we have not planned accordingly and saved. Well, when we discovered our Cat Haven cats at their then "house"... hoarder's nearby and took care of them for two years there until one was attacked, we obviously didn't think about the future/now when Jeff sprang into action and built Cat Haven, and we trapped everyone and relocated them in our backyard/their new home... Cat Haven.
We have 95% cared and provided for them on our own with little or no outside help. They were a "community problem" but became our family; this resulted in no extra $$ put away for the most part. Jeff has been self-employed, and I have been mostly a part-time employee in the health care field, so there is no retirement to collect. We don't live extravagant lives.
If you can help us get through this temporary situation, we'd greatly appreciate it. If you can't with a donation, please say prayers for Jeff to get answers, feel better, and return to his normal self. Thank you, and yes, it's really hard to ask for help; I'd say we could repay you once he gets back on his feet, but the future is unknown. Bless you and yours.
