Look Twice Save a Life: Recovery for Blake

Donation protected
Blake Holmes, a 27-year-old motorcycle enthusiast from Wilmington, NC said, "You never know when you go out for a nice ride on a beautiful day, it might change your life forever."  On November 9th, Blake was in a motorcycle accident that has changed his life forever. "I flew about 128 ft. and hit a bus stop sign, and I remember making contact just briefly, kind of like a flash or picture" he said.  Blake suffered severe injuries to his left leg and knee, right ankle and back. After many days in the hospital, his left leg had to be amputated. Numerous sleepless nights and eight surgeries later, Blake and his family are staying positive.  Unfortunately, the other driver at fault was uninsured, driving with a revoked license and expired registration. The medical and home expenses would be more out-of-pocket costs for Blake and Kylie. Responding officer Lippert said, "Blake is going to be affected for the rest of his life..."  For those that have already donated or reached out, we couldn't be more grateful for your support.  Blake said it himself, "It’s really great to know that you’re loved and supported by so many people that now, I feel like I could do more than I could before." Reilly K. ----"...Blake Holmes and Kylie Hillyer are among the greatest. They've grown to be loved by so many people and have been considered a part of my family for years... Thanks to their hard work and the support of his friends and family, Blake can start his countdown to doing a backflip with a prosthetic." "...Most people go-on living a life of mundane routine that hangs over them like a dark cloud; Blake represents everything outside of that cloud. Since meeting Blake, I have had the privilege to witness the light he brings to the people he surrounds, including my own. For instance, when in the military, separation from your closest friends and family embodies the lifestyle we reluctantly accept. Blake had once reserved time to come down to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with me at his family’s place and enjoy our limited time off. As I toured the house, Blake was so proudly showing me, I was happy to spend Thanksgiving with my best friend. In the final room, he labeled as the “best part of the house” stood the happiest surprise of my life...Blake coordinated with my friends, some of them I'd only seen a handful of times over the past 5 years, a surprise Friendsgiving. Blake brought me the light outside of the dark cloud lingering around my life at the time. He is a true asset to this world, not because he is thoughtful enough to surprise a friend, but because he doesn’t waste the opportunity to live the life we all should be living."  Samantha K. ----"Knowing Blake has made a huge impact on my life. With my siblings leaving home I felt empty. However, Blake always filled that up with his endless love and laughter. His character is rare to come by but it’s contagious. I know that if I needed positivity- Blake was there with his contagious laughter and great advice. Blake is my protector and Blake is my brother." Chris W. ---"I have known Blake for nearly fifteen years—since we were in middle school. Leadership comes naturally to him. During my “gap year” between college and law school, Blake was the driving force behind my beginning a habit of regular exercise that now vitally supports both my physical and mental health. And I never would have stuck it out without the encouragement and accountability he provided. Any time I would text him with some excuse as to why I couldn’t work out that day, I’d get a phone call. He would push back on my pretext, offer to come give me a ride, whatever it took to get me off the couch. He lifted me up then, and his energy and positive attitude continue to make me and everyone else around him better." Vanessa B.---"These are both amazing, caring people. Blake still has his whole life to live, and I know he will overcome any obstacle in his way, but sometimes we all need a little help. Look twice and save a life. It could be you, your father, your son, or a friend. We're so blessed to still have Blake here with us" The Hoppe family:  Richard H. ---"He's the most honest and morally guided person on the planet... Perhaps the universe."   Emily H. ---"Blake is a great guy with a lively personality and a passion for anything active and fun!" Rick H. ---" Over the years, I have watched Blake Holmes grow up to be a fine, hard working, and responsible, young man... When we visited him yesterday in the hospital, he was still in a lot of pain but has made remarkable progress and has the most positive attitude."
