My name is Kala Franklin, and I am the youngest daughter of Lonny A. Franklin. My father was a struggling alcoholic for most of my life, which stole him from his family's life. Through his addiction, he still fought through his demons, and as I grew older, he made efforts to at least be a friend to me since he wasn't capable of being a parent in his fullness. My father was consumed by the trauma that he faced in his lifetime. However, his traumas didn't consume all of him. My father's spirit was so vibrant; I have been blessed to witness my father in his pure form. I love my father as any daughter should; I promised to fight to come up with funds so that he can be put to rest correctly and with dignity. My father spent 30 years of his life homeless and fighting for life; the least I can do is give him this. Due to being homeless and a struggling addict, when the family heard the devastating news of him being admitted into the ICU, it caught us off guard. If it weren't for his little cousin's number being in one of his pockets, we wouldn't have the opportunity to give our goodbyes properly, nor would we be able to usher him into eternal life. After years of battling his addiction, my father is now at peace. But, now the family has to consider when he gets off the respirator how we can afford for him to be put to rest during these difficult times properly. The donated funds will go towards the family's urns for him, his cremation and the services that the mortuary provides, and to create memorabilia of him to give to the rest of the family. My father tried to be a light in a very dark place, and now his spirit is no longer in torment, and he is finally at peace. Please help me release my father's physical body so his soul can be free and so that I can keep a piece of my favorite person with me.
