Lonni Schicker (63) was independent, successful and was able to progress in her education and career at a high level. About 4 years ago that began to change. At age 59 Lonni’s doctor diagnosed her with mild cognitive impairment. She had to leave the career she loved and move in with her son. Her dementia has since progressed. She now chooses to share her journey, selflessly, hoping to educate and help others.
The financial hardship due to this long term degenerative disease is devastating. Lonni did everything possible to take care of herself financially until Dementia robbed her of her professional abilities. Please contribute to this amazing individual.
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
After high school, Lonni Schicker worked as a nurse's aide and a technician in the burn unit at what was then St. John's Mercy Medical Center. She completed the two-year diploma nursing program at Missouri Baptist University in 1983. Here she is shown in her graduation picture. She was 26.
