Solo Cycle London to Paris (48 hours)

Hi all,

As many of you know I lost a good friend of mine, Sam Roonan, to his fight against his lung transplant rejection just shy of 2 years ago.

Sam had a rare condition called Cystic fibrosis which is an inherited condition that causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. Consequently, this causes lung infections and problems with digesting food which lead to Sam needing a lung transplant in 2012. This transplant gave Sam a new lease of life and allowed him to play sports and achieve so much. However, with all major surgery comes compilations and in 2019 Sam developed an acute rejection to his new lungs. Sam battled his lung transplant rejection but unfortunately passed away in early 2020 in the Rowan Hospice at the age of 21.

The Challenge
In memory of Sam, I will attempt to cycle 242 miles from London to Paris at the end of May. Many people who take on the challenge ride the route over 4 days with an assisted support team, however, I plan to ride it solo within 48 hours period.

The Charity
All donations will go towards the Rowans Hospice where Sam spent the last weeks of his life in comfort with his family.

The Rowans Hospice provides free care and support to adults in our community who have a life-limiting illness and their families. Many people think that hospices are all about dying. But the Rowans Hospice takes a different approach and support people to live as well as they can with their illness from the moment of diagnosis through to bereavement support. Due to the nature of the care being free, 80% of their income relies on donations and fundraisers like this.

For more information on the charity feel free to visit: https://www.rowanshospice.co.uk

Any donation big or small will go a long way to helping this amazing charity!

Thank you,
Ben :)

P.S - I would also like to say a special thank you to Simon Hickman for lending me a bike to complete this challenge.
