I am Doshia Strong, Lona's mom. I created this Go Fund Me on her behalf.

My name is Lona Barton, and I am a Junior Psychology Major with a Minor in Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. I’d like to go to law school so that I may pursue a career in criminal justice. Although I haven’t decided whether to be a defense attorney or a prosecutor, my goal is to change the justice system from within. I’d like to do what I can to create a fairer system where defendants aren’t given or told to accept poor plea deals, or the innocent aren’t jailed because of faulty, biased evidence, or offenders are never given an opportunity for redemption because of overly strict sentencing guidelines.

I recently applied for and was accepted to the Lex Pre-Law Fellowship program. For 3 weeks this summer, I will visit Valencia, Spain and work directly on actual cases with help and guidance from real-life lawyers and law students. A study abroad program never seemed doable, but I am determined to let myself pursue the opportunities that many others couldn’t or that I was told I couldn’t have. I know that this program will give me the push I need to compete for admission into some of the country’s top law schools as I begin my journey as a criminal lawyer.
