The admission of our Lolo Gerry on October 2017 for treatment of suspected gallstones, turned out to be the start of a life change for our family. With further testing, the suspected gallstone was ruled out to be a tumor, with a 90% chance of it being cancerous. After numerous of tests, this tumor was diagnosed as Cholangiocarcinoma- a form of cancer that affects the bile ducts. Based upon his diagnosis he was immediately referred to oncologists for further evaluation at Stanford. However due to no coverage with his insurance and Stanford, our Lolo was redirected to UCSF for further coverage. His initial treatment was surgery to remove the tumor and to verify if any other organs were affected. As our family waited during his procedure, we remained strong with much faith and high hopes for the best. Five hours into the procedure, his surgeon came out and notified us that his tumor was very aggressive and he had to cut out more than what was expected, that his tumor had spread upwards, downwards, and along his lymph nodes in that area. After nine days of recovery at UCSF, he finally was able to go home with the plans of tackling our next form of treatment- radiation. It was advised to receive radiation for up to five days a week then eventually chemotherapy.
My grandparents are such strong, loving, and admiring individuals who help any family or friend in need. The unthinkable is now a reality for them. Many have asked how they can help out, so I created this GoFundMe Page. They’ve got a long road ahead filled of 2-3 hour commutes to UCSF for radiation for up to five days a week, numerous tests and appointments, and overnight stays. With a set income, any financial assistance will help. If you would like to contribute to help with these expenses it would be much appreciated during this difficult time. No donation is too small and anything will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
