The Fondation Autisme Luxembourg (FAL) works to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Founded in 1996 by a group of parents directly affected, we have since continuously developed the services necessary to support families in their daily lives. Autism is an invisible disability that affects 1 in 100 people, which corresponds to just over 6,600 individuals in Luxembourg.
The scientific community widely acknowledges the importance of starting autism treatment as early as possible. Several studies have shown that early and targeted interventions can significantly reduce disabilities and promote the development of children with ASD, with lasting and meaningful improvements in IQ, language, adaptive skills, and autism diagnosis. The report “Recommendations for the Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders”, published by the Luxembourg Scientific Council in March 2023, emphasizes that for individuals at risk of ASD, early, personalized, intensive, and well-targeted interventions can significantly reduce disabilities and foster development.
Currently, no program in Luxembourg meets these criteria for specialized early intensive intervention in autism.
The Lollipop project aims to provide early, intensive, and individualized intervention for 6 children aged 12 to 48 months diagnosed with or suspected of having ASD.
Based on the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), the program combines scientifically validated approaches to enhance the social, cognitive, and language skills most affected by autism during this critical stage of development. The method is implemented through play-based activities and daily routines, with the active involvement of the child’s entire support network—including family and professionals—to ensure consistency and maximize outcomes.
The goal is to offer these children the best possible developmental prospects, promoting their future inclusion in education and society and reducing their long-term need for specialized care.
