Lola’s Tumor Removal
Donation protected
Lola has been in my life since she was 6 weeks old back in 2009. She was so tiny she fit in a sock. She’s moved from California to Washington and finally to Quebec, Canada. She’s truly the best dog you could ask for.
She started getting small lumps around 7 or 8 years ago. I took her to multiple vets over the years (some multiple times a year just to be safe) and they all said they were fine, no reason to put her under anesthesia for some lumps that just looked a bit wonky but not anything to be concerned about.
Unfortunately, earlier this year I noticed a new lump near her hip and had it examined by a new vet recommended to me by a newly graduated Vet student. The wonderful vet in Beaconsfield took some biopsy’s and found that 2 of her now 4 lumps were mass cell tumours. Upon further discovery they also found she has a heart murmur. Because the lumps were in fact tumours, I made the decision that it was in her best interest to have them removed before it progressed.
Before the vet is willing to put her under, she needs to do a cardiac ultrasound to make sure she can actually be put under for surgery. Of course this isn’t a cheap, and costs a little more than $500. Depending on the type and severity of her heart murmur, she may require additional anesthesia or extra monitoring which of course, will cost. She also recommended we x-ray Lola prior to surgery to make sure the tumours haven’t metastasized.
Once she’s is cleared for surgery, the vet estimates removal and pathology will cost around $1,700. Totally around $2,200. Her cardiologist exam is October 15th and surgery is scheduled for October 20th
This amazing little dog has never costed me a dime. Besides normal vaccines and being spayed when she was younger she’s never put a dent in my pocket book. I just want to do the right thing for this little girl and make sure she’s around for another 10 years! If you have ever met Lola, you know that she is one special little dog. She has a big, grumbly personality in a stocky little frame and I wouldnt’ trade those grumbles, or doggy farts for anything.
However, working for a non-profit organization doesn’t usually mean a hefty income. I work at a non-profit organization where we provide sanctuary to ex-biomedical chimpanzees and monkeys. It’s a job that I care about deeply and know that it means my pay checks aren’t the most impressive but I just can’t let Lola suffer because I’m not wealthy so I need your help!
Any and all donations will go to Lola’s surgery and recovery. I want to make sure she has everything she needs so that her surgery can go smoothly and she can recover and get back to her normal, playing fetch, napping in 100 blankets, bugging the cat-self!
