Lola Needs A Pacemaker

Hi family and friends.

As some of you may or may not already know, Lola has been diagnosed with Sick Sinus Syndrome, or Tachy-Brady Syndrome. The cause of SSS is not fully understood, but generally happens in older dogs, and is related to scarring of the heart muscle.

The bad news is that this condition (SSS) usually progresses. The treatment is a pacemaker and luckily with great luck and a great cardiology team, we are able to make this happen. Usually a pacemaker is only placed if the arrhythmia is causing heart enlargement or weakening on ultrasound which if not caught early, can cause heart failure and thus symptoms (abnormal breathing, reduced energy levels, weakness/collapse, coughing). With the appointments, ultrasounds and heart monitor tests Lola has already spent most of her insurance coverage for the year already!

The surgery itself is not without risks, but usually has a good success rate. The post-operative lifestyle is still good, other than not being allowed to have "rough play", and needing occasional check-ups with a cardiologist.

The surgery and after care alone is upwards of 10k and am looking for some love to send Lola's way.
