Lois' Hemispherectomy Rehabilitation

Donation protected
We are fundraising for our six year old daughter, Lois who is soon to undergo surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital to treat her epilepsy which cannot be controlled with medication.

She was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy in March 2023 after experiencing seizures since she was a toddler. Her epilepsy is a result of a brain injury she acquired before birth where she suffered a stroke affecting the right side of her brain. She was diagnosed cerebral palsy at the age of one and as a result has hemiplegia, limiting the function of her left side, particularly her hand and arm.

Her surgery is due to take place at the end of November 2025 with the hope it will offer a cure for her epilepsy.

As a result of the surgery she will lose her peripheral vision and further lose some function of her left side. She will need to undergo an intensive period of rehabilitation after the surgery for her to return to her baseline level of functioning. We would like to provide her with intensive occupational and physio therapy after she returns home.

Although the NHS offers some therapies, our experience is this is never sufficient to Lois' needs. A private Occupational Therapy session costs a minimum of £95 for one hour. In the weeks after Lois returns home from her surgery we would like to provide her with two therapy sessions a week to give her the best opportunities to bounce back from her surgery and return to her normal.

We are setting up this fundraiser to supplement funding for the private therapy. If you are able to help in a small way we would be so grateful.
