Logs' Recovery

Donation protected
In July 2017, my dad (Logs, Keith, William, Treehugger) had an emergency craniotomy after having some speech and right side weakness.  They removed a large tumor, which unfortunately turned out to be glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.  Since his surgery he has gone through 6 weeks of intense radiation and chemotherapy, and has spent 4 weeks in an inpatient rehab facility.  Although the surgery and treatment has left him unable to walk or use his right arm, and has made it difficult for him to speak due to expressive aphasia, he is still the happy go lucky, optimistic, caring and amazing guy he has always been.

He is now ready to go home with 24 hour care to make sure he is safe and comfortable for the next 4 weeks.  After that, he will have another MRI and start wearing the Optune device, and see where the tumor is.  There are a lot of positive, hopeful stories out there and we are ready for dad to be one of those success stories!

Casey and Bill have done an awesome job of getting the house ready with safety bars, etc and we have lined up a caregiver to help dad through the weekdays when he has occupational, speech and physical therapy.  The beautiful thing is all his in-home therapy will be covered by Medicare, but unfortanately, his caregiver costs will not be covered.  As this has been very unexpected, and we know that so many of you amazing people have asked how you can help, we are setting up this fundraiser to make sure Dad can stay home while he recovers, and that we ensure that someone can be there with him during the day.  We have the overnights covered, but with his grandson on the way, a tree farm to run, and decks to be built, we can't be there all day every day, and it would probably drive him nuts anyway...

Any donations will go toward his recovery and getting him back to as close to normal as possible.  He has a lot of work to do, but  he is so excited to get home, and we want to make sure the financial part of his recovery doesn't have to hold him back.

Thank you all so much for your support, whether it's sending positive thoughts, hugging a tree, or hugging the people who matter to you.  Through this journey, we have all come to realize just how much the people in our lives mean, and everything else is just stuff.

Much Love,

Aubrey, Casey, Bill, Bobbi Sue, Jay and Arlo
