The Loggers woke up on the morning of February 25th in their home like it was a normal day after celebrating Katie's birthday the night before. David went off to work and Katie loaded Kimmy into the car and went to take her to a doctor appointment. Grandma L and Jackson had woken up and were getting ready to start their day and Bella was still fast asleep in her bed. They said it sounded like an explosion went off and the entire house shook! So they ran to see what had happened and saw that a car had driven through the front of the house and was in the living room! A young person was driving down their street and had a massive seizure which caused them to lose control of their vehicle. Grandma L's years of nursing skills kicked in and she immediately started giving medical care to the individual until the ambulance got there to take over. The police and fire departments showed up to remove the vehicle and determine the stability of the house. It was decided that the damage was extensive enough that the home needed to be condemned until specialized professionals could do a further analysis. The fire department gave them 30 minutes to get everything from the home that they could possibly need for an undetermined amount of time. An impossible task considering the children's special needs, Grandma L's special needs, and the fact that the cats were in there somewhere hiding. They were able to get their medications, Grandma L's CPAP machine, and all of the animals leaving everything else behind. And then they shut off the utilities.
Everyone who was in the house is safe and sound without a scratch on them. Right now the children are staying at a family's home with their kitten. Grandma L is staying at family friend's home. While Katie, David, and the other pets are with his father. Everyone is doing as well as can be. They have had checkups with the pediatrician and other specialist that care for the children as well to ensure their wellbeing during this traumatic time. It is unknown how long they will be displaced from their home. Insurance is paying the bare minimum and that is supposed to somehow cover repairing the damage to the house, yard, and replacing damaged items inside the home. They are also not covering the cost of housing the Loggers while their home is still condemned. Nor food, clothing, or other every day costs and expenses that normally wouldn't be incurred at home.
Unfortunately, there is limited action that can be done at this time and your help in any way is greatly appreciated. The road ahead looks to be a long and complex one to return the home to it's previous state and allow for occupancy in the future. There is still very much unknown, and during this time things can change rapidly or not at all. While everyone is following the appropriate steps, it has become increasingly expensive to take care of all the additional expenses, costs, and day-to-day life that wouldn't normally be needed, as well as continuing to pay for the expenses of a house that cannot be lived in. Your help again is greatly appreciated, if you cannot donate, your prayers are equally welcome.
