Help Logan walk again
Donation protected
Hi!
My name is Brandi Martin. I am fundraising for my daughter Logan.
Logan was born with a rare genetic disorder called Marinesco Sjögren Syndrome which causes early onset cataracts, balance and coordination problems, scoliosis, cognitive impairments, severe muscle weakness, and myopathy.
Logan had great difficulty meeting her developmental milestones. She never crawled or walked unassisted.
When learning to sit up at age 2, she fell multiple times and broke her baby teeth and required stitches and staples in her head. At age 3, she had to have cataract surgery.
Her early years in school were great. She was happy and had great friends. Middle school came and she was put in a Special Ed class with violent kids. Logan became so stressed that her hair started falling out in huge clumps.
High school was even more isolating. Her dad and I divorced. My oldest daughter left and never came back and then Logan’s heart was shattered when her older brother died suddenly from a motorcycle accident. She then had to have a major back surgery due to scoliosis. She had three curves in her back and had to be fused from neck all the way down.
These last few years for Logan have been dark. It has been absolutely heartbreaking as a parent to watch this beautiful, kind hearted girl lose herself. She has said that her life would be different if she could walk.
This past weekend, Logan and I attended the Abilities Expo in Dallas. We went to get some wheelchair repairs which are free at this event.
As we walked around, we encountered a booth with a brand new product called Zeen. This product was the vision of a gentleman named Garrett. He watched his dad struggle late in life with independence. It was developed specifically for people with muscle weakness.
Logan was eager to see if it would work for her. The nice people got her buckled in and then she was standing just like that. She took a few steps and then stopped and looked up at us and burst into tears.
She said “ I haven’t walked in 15 years. You don’t understand how life changing this is for me.”
She cried, I cried, even Garrett got a little teary eyed.
It was like watching the scene in E.T. when he brings the dead flower back to life. She was filled with hope! She even begged me to come back the next day to use the Zeen again. She said she needed to feel the floor under her feet.
This is where I humbly ask for any donation big or small to help my daughter realize her dream of walking. The product is brand new and not covered by insurance as of yet. The Zeen device is $2650
Imagine all of your dreams; Logan’s is to walk.
• To share a conversation with a friend face to face
• To stand at the kitchen counter and get herself a drink
• To go places that a wheelchair can’t
Hope is a powerful thing.
I can’t wait to see where Logan goes with her Zeen .
If you can’t afford to help, I understand and thank you for reading Logan’s story.
Sincerely,
Brandi Martin
