Hi, my name is Nicola and I am proudly running my first ever 10K to support someone incredibly close to my heart — my brave nephew Logan, who is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia. Together with two running enthusiastic friends Clodagh and Laura, we're lacing up our shoes and pushing ourselves for a cause that means so much to us.
Every step we take is a step toward hope, strength, and support for his journey. We're raising funds to help ease the financial burden on his family and to show him he's not fighting alone. As they focus on caring for Logan, we want to help his family in any way we can. Any funds raised will help to cover travel expenses, lost income and any additional costs that arise as they navigate this new reality.
Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to helping him and his family through this incredibly tough time. Thank you for standing with us, let's make every kilometre count! Team Logan!
About Logan:
Logan is an amazing 9 year old boy from Doneraile in Cork. He loves Lego, Minecraft, Pokemon, Dinosaurs and Sports.
Since September 2024, Logan has received 9 months of chemotherapy to treat leukaemia; a combination of daily oral chemo, weekly/monthly IV chemo, intrathecal chemo via lumbar punctures and bone marrow biopsies.
He has a Hickman line in his chest through which chemo is administered and blood samples are taken from.
This line means that he cannot participate in sports, activities or swimming and even having a shower is an ordeal.
The bags are packed 24/7 ready to go if Logan gets a temperature for admission to hospital.
Logan, alongside his parents Shane & Sharon (Maunsell) Sweeney and younger brother Caleb have met these challenges head-on.
Logan’s tests show that the treatment is thankfully working, but it doesn’t stop there. June and July will see Logan receiving further intensive chemotherapy, hopefully moving to maintenance treatment after that which will involve daily oral chemo, monthly iv chemo and 3monthly lumbar punctures for intrathecal chemo for 2 years.
Logan has already been through more than any 9 year old should, sometimes superheroes live in the hearts of small kids fighting big battles.
Thank you for your support.
