Lockerbie Academy Malawi Scholarship Programme

The African Link Committee at Lockerbie Academy is on a mission to raise £2,000 for the Lockerbie Academy Scholarship Programme.  This programme is currently funding the secondary education of over 60 pupils in Malawi.  Primary education is free in Malawi, but pupils have to pay to access secondary education.  The secondary school fees can be prohibitively expensive for the poorest families as the majority exist on less than $1 per day.

All of the scholars participating in this programme come from Lockerbie Academy’s link primary school in Malawi called Thawale II Primary School. The education the scholars receive, thanks to the Scholarship Programme, has the potential to transform their lives and lift them out of poverty.

Usually the African Link Committee raise funds by holding coffee mornings and bake sales.  However, current Covid restrictions have made this impossible.  Due to this, we have had to move our efforts online to raise the funds to keep the Scholarship Programme running.

If you are able to donate to the Lockerbie Academy Scholarship Programme, please follow the link to the Go Fund Me Page to make a donation.  Every penny that we raise will go towards the tuition fees of the scholars.

It costs roughly £30 per year to educate a child in Malawi, so your donation, big or small, will make a huge difference.  On behalf of the young person who will benefit from your donation, thank you - or as they say in Malawi – Zikomo!
