Emergency Mental Health Access- Locke Family

Hi name is Porsha,

 

I am a single mom of two boys ages three and thirteen. My family and I are in middle of a storm and we need help. One week ago, my oldest son shared that he couldn't feel love anymore and that he was so sad and always hurting... he didn't want to be alive. I sat on the floor with him and with tears in my eyes and forced myself to reach out for help. That call led to a hospital assessment and a recommendation for partial hospitalization. Our current insurance doesn't cover the costs for these services and while my son is currently in an all day program at a youth facility that can help him learn to reconnect and build the strategies for him to want to be alive and apart of the world, I can't afford to keep him there for the full length of treatment that is needed to help him.

 

In addition to my son's program, I am working on my own mental health and navigating a new ADHD diagnosis and corresponding therapy. My insurance won't cover the full cost of my treatments and medication either.

 

I am a person who believes in living within my means and spending conservatively and right now mental health treatment is a luxury I can't afford without help. I am humbling myself to reach out in to the world for support to make this necessary treatment for my son and myself possible. I am hoping something in my story resonates and that you feel compelled to give. Help my family survive this storm. Help my son feel loved again.

Update 2/24/2022

We made it 8 days in full day treatment (partial hospitalization-PHP). Today at our reassessment meeting with the program counselor they recommended an additional week of full day and then 2-3 weeks of partial day treatment (intensive outpatient-IOP). The new timeline means another month before he gets to go back to school full-time and increases the cost by adding additional 14 days of care. I am going to adjust our fundraising goal to help us through the additional treatment days.
