MCALLEN TX
On Sunday, Aug 14th, 2022 late in the evening while helping her daughter prepare for the first
day of school, Diandra was suddenly stricken with a sharp gripping pain that extended from her neck down her back, and through her hip. Thinking she had bent down too quickly and strained her back or pulled a muscle she sat on the couch for about 20 mins before realizing she still couldn’t catch her breath. So she woke her mom up, had her daughter turn on her car and grab her
purse and shoes, and drove herself to the nearest urgent care. After informing the medical
staff she thought it might be more serious, possibly a heart attack, doctors performed various tests,
including a CT scan, and discovered she had suffered a Dissected Aorta and the damage
was fairly extensive.
She was immediately rushed to McAllen Heart Hospital where doctors ran more tests and tried
to determine if she would need immediate emergency surgery to repair the damage. This is
where they discovered she had Covid and the damage to the aorta was severe, but could not be
repaired immediately. Diandra spent 5 days in the ICU on IV medications and was then moved
to a regular room and given oral medications.
Doctors are conservatively working to lower and maintain her blood pressure, with many
scheduled follow up appointments to determine when the best time to perform the surgery will
be. She currently remains in the hospital.
Diandra, who has worked in the Wedding & Event Planning industry for over 20 years, has been
told she needs to make some serious adjustments that directly affect her work. She needs to
take some time to heal her injury as well as cut back on a large portion of the physical demands
of the job; while she currently waits for surgery, she has been advised to not return to work for up to 9 months, which will greatly affect her providing for her family.
This has been a devastating year for Diandra and her family; in February her father fell and
broke his leg and was subsequently hospitalized for 73 days, after which he succumbed to his
injury and other underlying conditions and passed away in late April. Then 6 weeks later on
June 11, 2022, her mother suffered a heart attack that led to a quadruple bypass open heart
surgery; Diandra was her main caregiver. And now this medical emergency that has put her life
on hold. With current medical expenses, including upcoming surgical expenses, along with bills
and the care of her mother and daughter, Diandra and her family need support. Any donations
made will be greatly appreciated, and no one is more deserving than a great business woman,
mother, and a generous and hardworking woman who has contributed in many ways.
Thank you, and updates will be posted on her care.
