Local theatre technician loses everything in fire

This fundraiser has been created to help a beloved live events technician, Fil Wiatrak.
Around 8:30pm on July 27, 2023, an intense fire broke out in Fil’s apartment building in East Vancouver. The apartment's sprinkler system did not engage and upon smelling smoke in the hallways, Fil was only able to grab their cat, Jimmy, and run out of the building.
It took 50 firefighters working through the night until around 4:30am to extinguish the blaze.
Fil did not have renter’s insurance and lost all of their belongings. Nothing was able to be recovered except their passport and thankfully, the rest of their pets. Their PC, instruments, clothes, records, and everything were lost due to water damage. They are currently staying with their sibling while they sort things out and try to find a new place to live.
The funds will be used to help with the cost of renting a new place and buying necessities such as clothes, shoes, a computer, pet supplies and other household items.
