Update on Brooke’s story:
Today marks the 9th anniversary of my parents passing. That event left my brother Derek and I orphaned at the ages of 13 and 9. For the past 9 years, I have lived with my uncle Rich as my guardian. He is a single dad with his own 2 daughters. It wasn’t easy for him to inherit 2 new kids overnight but he did a great job as a father of 4. He was able to support all of us as best as he could. With the help of my grandparents (Bob and Happy) and my god mom (my mom’s best friend Auntie Skeeter), I have been able to do many ‘normal’ teenage things.
I became an adult in April and graduated from Las Lomas HS last Friday, June 7th. I’m happy to say that I’ll be attending St. Mary’s College in the fall following my big brother footsteps. Thanks to the many families and friends who have supported me through my journey thus far. I am so fortunate that St. Mary’s has given me a partial scholarship. It helps a lot but it doesn’t cover everything that i need to be successful. I’m asking for your support one last time. I am trying to raise money to be able to prepare for my new life so any amount is appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Brooke's Story:
I would have never imagined as a child that I would grow up as an orphan. June 10, 2010 my life was changed forever, I lost both my parents to a murder-suicide. As a nine-year old I moved from my family home in with a family friend. And that pattern continued 3 more times. I was forced to mature quickly adapting to new people coming in and out of my life. All the while wishing I had a mom to protect and comfort me through elementary school especially when I felt fear, danger, and loneliness.
Yet thankfully, I am a survivor. At a young age, athletics came to my rescue. It felt good to play hard and win. First I competed in soccer, then swimming and now volleyball. My success on the court brought coaches, parents and new friends to be my cheerleaders and supporters. Now at age 17, I look back I realize a silver lining from my loss of parents. I am a go-getter and if I need something I strive to find out how to achieve it by myself. I know those life long skills will help me succeed in college and beyond.
