Hello Friends, family, local businesses, and anyone who wants to help a great man in need,

We are in need of everyones help spreading the word and donating!

We are requesting donations to help Mike and Candy Landers as they navigate the tough road of recovery that stands before them. Please read below to not only learn about what happened to Mike, but to also learn a little history of the wonderful man you will be helping!

As most of you already know, Mike had a stroke on Monday the 17th of October. He woke up feeling seemingly ok and proceeded to work at his desk diligently writing a grant for Project Arts of Plymouth. After some time passed his wife, Candy, decided to check on him because he had not come up from his office in sometime. What she discovered is nothing short of a nightmare for any wife or loved one. She found him unresponsive on the floor in-front of his desk.

What we now know is that he had a massive blood clot release and get caught in the main artery in his neck that supplies blood to his brain and face. He was med-flighted to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston for emergency surgery. The stroke caused paralysis on the entire right-side of his body and a significant part of the left side. He is unable to speak, swallow, or get out of bed. At this point he is being cared for by a team of neurologists and nurses on a stroke floor at Beth Israel. He will be in the hospital for 2-4 weeks before he can be released to a long term rehabilitation facility. He will need at a minimum many months of Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speak pathology. It is unknown how much additional medical treatment he will need or exactly how long he will need to be hospitalized. In addition to Mikes medical expenses, his wife will have to take an unpaid leave of absence from work to manage his care and make sure he has the best chance at a full recovery.

Mike has 4 kids, 3 sons and 1 daughter. He is a loving and dedicated father. He has 10 grand kids and 1 on the way. He is an amazing Grampy and is loved by his entire family.

In addition to the love and service he has provided for his family, Mike has dedicated his entire adult life to the service of others. He has volenteered, participated in comunity outreach his entire life. Over the past 25 years he has also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

In addition, he has participated on many town boards and councils to restore old monuments and historic sites in Plymouth. Mike has been a member of his town meeting for more years than I can remember. Specifically, he was involved in starting a fundraiser in the late 90’s that brought the Plymouth Skate Park to the downtown area. This provided a much needed place for all the kids in the community to go and skate or learn to skate.(Dad was inspired to do this because of his son Mike and Patrick were dedicated skaters)

He is also one of the founding members of Project Arts of Plymouth. A non-profit concert series that has brought free outdoor concerts to the downtown waterfront for over 25 years. He has helped raise money, write grants, and negotiate with national and local artists to perform at reduced rates. He did this all to ensure families in the community had access to the music and arts for free. This has provided substantial business to local establishments during the concert series. His love of sharing music doesn’t end there. He also donates instruments every year to children in need, that could not afford to play otherwise. Mike has dedicated his life to the music and arts.

Mike just retired from his career working for the town at the local Plymouth Municipal airport. He had many responsibilities while working there. But one of his most important was to be on site year round in the rain, sleet, or snow, ensuring that the police, fire and rescue, and med-flight helicopters and planes had fuel when they needed it. This made it possible for them all to do their jobs serving the community and saving lives.

Without a doubt, Mike’s generosity has benefited many. All these things considered, we feel it is time we all give back to local legend, “Mayor Mike”, for his years of dedication and service to the community. He has been there for so many. And now it’s time we show up for him. The financial burden this has all created is overwhelming and it’s time to ask for help. Please consider donating and know that any contribution no matter how small will help. Every penny we receive will help reduce the burden on Candy and guarantee he gets the best care possible. Thank you in advance for all of your generous contributions, for sharing this go fund me, your prayers, and well wishes! Mike loves you all and this community so very much!!
