Alfred Akeyo is a Kenyan man who has dedicated his life to helping others in his community. He lives in the Mathare slums (where thousands live with very few amenities) with his wife and 4 children. He received a scholarship through the Kenyan Industrial Training Institute to become an electronics technician, and so he started a shop in Nairobi fixing electronics. For the past decade, he has used his small success to start a grassroots organization called Green World Community. They have helped to buy school supplies for over 200 children and help feed orphan children who don't have enough.

Alfred is a humanitarian by nature, but in the last year, his family has also been struck by hardship. His electronics shop in Nairobi had to close after the severe floods in 2024, where entire districts were not rebuilt.

Now, Alfred has decided to start a new venture doing agriculture. He has been given access to 5 acres of fertile land in the rural village areas he grew up in. He needs capital to get the planting underway in time. The season will be in full swing at the beginning of November and will go through June until the drought season begins. The month of October is the time to raise funds for all his needs so he can get this project underway. If he is successful, he will be able to support his family with this new endeavor as well as continue his humanitarian efforts that greatly benefit hundreds in his community. He will also be creating jobs for the farm workers on the project (5 to 8 people).

If we reach our goal this Go Fund Me will support Alfred to run the farming project through the entire growing season, November thru June. He has identified a demand that surpasses the supply of several varieties of beans and maize so these will be his predominant crops. Alfred is also trained in permaculture and will be using organic, sustainable practices for his farming project. The amount we are fundraising for will be to cover the following baseline expenses for his new business: Workers wages, temporary living shelter and food: $3000. Tools and equipment rentals: $1200. Seeds: $400. Organic pesticides: $200. If he is successful, profits from this year will support him covering expenses for next year's crops and will give Alfred a solid foundation to start his new business endeavor.

GoFundMe does not support individuals in Kenya to run direct fundraisers, so I am organizing the GoFundMe and will be securely relaying all of the funds to Alfred. My name is Marin Toscano, and I ran a non-profit in Denver for 8 years called Food Bridge that trained immigrants in starting catering businesses. Currently, I am a stay-at-home mom with 2 young children, however I am still passionate about helping diverse communities. All donation made will be made fully and directly to Alfred via secure channels.
