In the heart of Camden, ME, a hero stands tall—Tom Quantrell, affectionately known as “Lappa.” With 40 years of dedication volunteering his service to the CamdenFire Department, Tom has spent a great deal of time supporting and volunteering the Make a Wish foundation and Doctors without Borders. He needs our support in facing his toughest battle yet.
Late last week, Tom was admitted to the ER, only to receive the devastating news of Stage 3 Lung Cancer. As Tom’s best friend and son, I am reaching out on his behalf to rally the community that he has served so faithfully. Tom isn’t just my hero; he has touched countless lives with his generosity and love. If you know him, you’re familiar with his uncanny ability to befriend anyone who crosses his path—whether in Camden or on an airplane seat next to him. He’s the guy who sparks never-ending conversations, aptly referred to as being “TQ’d”.
As we navigate the road ahead, facing this formidable opponent, we’re optimistic about Dad’s strength and resilience. To give him the fighting chance he deserves, we’ve set up this GoFundMe to ease the financial burden associated with his medical journey.
Your donation, no matter how small, will contribute to medical bills, rent, utilities, food, and the frequent trips to Augusta for chemotherapy and radiation. However, we understand that financial constraints may limit some from contributing monetarily. There are various ways you can make a meaningful impact in Tom’s day-to-day life:
1. Transportation Assistance:
• Rides to pick up prescriptions.
• Rides to Augusta for medical appointments.
2. Nourishing Support:
• Meal preparations to lighten the load.
• A visit to bring laughter or get “TQ’d”
3. Domestic Duties:
• Trash runs, grocery shopping, and laundry.
• Snow removal from his car after a storm.
Here’s a rough guideline for what your donation can assist with
$10.00-$35.00 can account for a ride for local medical appointments
$50.00-$75.00 can account for a ride and fuel costs to and from Augusta for chemotherapy
$100.00-$500.00 can account for acquiring food and meal preparation per week
$500.00-$1,000.00 or more can account for rent, utilities and all the medical bills
Of course all denominations will help towards his medical bills. If we can alleviate the financial stress and burden during his treatment, it will be instrumental in keeping his focus on fighting.
No gesture is too small, and your support in any form will be cherished.
If you have any unique ways to assist, please reach out to me at [email redacted]
To share your stories, offer assistance, or simply spread the word, your involvement is a beacon of hope for Tom and our family. Let’s come together as a community to support the man who has given so much of himself.
Thank you for being part of Tom’s journey. Your kindness will forever be etched in our hearts.
