Local Chef Kory

Kory is the owner of Bare Necessities Llc dba M&K's Kitchen. After Hurricaine Florence Kory worked with World Central Kitchen to make sure that people who were displaced, those left without power and were hungry, would be able to eat. He worked around the clock and volunteered, with his food truck, to distribute food to thousands of people. He currently does a lot of non-profit events. He feeds homeless people and will do fundraiser events for those in need. Kory opened M&K's in 2019 when he found a commissary for his food truck that had a take out window. He stayed for a year and decided to move to another location so that he would have a place for people to be able to dine in. He made the move during the Covid pandemic doing take out and delivery only. The building he rented had many issues. Employees fell through the floor three different times. (We had to keep closing). The walk-in freezer went into auto defrost and spoiled around 58k worth of food. He was closed for a month. He was denied on the food spoilage claim because the property owners didn't keep up the maintenance on the equipment (it was their responsibility) Several of his employees got sick with Covid just as he was getting ready to open the dining room up for customers. Now M&K's is closed due to Covid. The continuous closings have caused Kory to get behind on taxes along with other regular business expenses. Kory is in the process of getting his food truck back on the road. The main goal is to convert M&K's into a non profit restaurant that will help the community. He gives and gives.
