LMU Basketball Funding

Donation protected

Dear current Lions, Alumni, and local LMU supporters,

1990 was the last time LMU Basketball was in the NCAA tournament- it's now 2020 and 30 years later our program is still trying to figure out how to get back to basketball in March. Why is it that other mid major schools have been able to put together impressive basketball programs and consistent conference and NCAA tournament success? At LMU we've got one of the country's best locations on the beach in one of the most sought after cities in the country, Los Angeles. Our coaches over the past 3 decades have had difficulty recruiting and keeping some of the country's best talent.

Gonzaga, St. Marys, Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall, Boston College, St Johns, Xavier, St Marys. What do each of these schools have in common? They are mid major private schools of similar size to LMU who have consistent success in their conferences and routine appearances in the NCAA tournament. LMU has everything these school have plus one of the nations best campuses, 75 degrees and sunshine year round.

After a 1 hour zoom call with around 30 alumni and our new highly regarded Head Couch Stan Johnson out of Marquette- we found out quickly the main answer to that question is lack of funding for facilities needed to recruit top talent. The alumni on the call were impressed with Coach Stan on this call, and we want to everything we can to support him and what he needs to bring success to LMU basketball. Coach Stan put together a presentation with photos of the current facilities and what needs to be done  in order to compete with the country's best recruits, you may also refer to the video attached of Stan outlining the programs needs.

Coach Stan also revealed we currently have the #8 ranked recruiting class for 2021- just behind Louisville and ahead of Duke. Stan and the program need our financial support this year to continue the momentum.

We currently have a goal of $1.1M for renovations needed immediately for the program. Deemed the first and most important upgrade to the facilities, we are working to raise $310,000 by August 31st to upgrade the Men's Basketball Hallway and Corridor which currently looks like a tired recreational room that you might hold a high school birthday party in the 90s.

What we're asking is for you to contribute what you can and share this on your social media accounts- in doing so we should be able to scale this thing pretty quickly.

Coach Stan got us excited about the future but it can't be done without the proper funding. Thanks for your support- every dollar counts!
