Help Lucie get a lung transplant
Donation protected

My name is Lucie Parent, I am a 54 year old single woman, currently on medical leave from my position at a secondary school, as an educational assistant for disabled children.
On January 5, 2012 my brother called 911 to bring me to emergency due to a very severe cold. Upon arrival I was taken to ICU. Within 8-12 hrs. I was under a coma, which lasted 11 days. Once released from ICU, I was in step 1, they diagnosed me with severe Scleroderma (a type of autoimmune disorder), Rheumatoid Arthritis (inflammation of the joints and surrounding tissue), Interstitial/Connective Tissue Lung Disease (scarring of lung tissue eventually affects ability to breathe), Ground Glass Lungs/Opacity of the Lungs (hazy increased attenuation of lung), Raynaud's Disease (causes some areas of the body to feel numbs and cool), Hypertension, Asthma and Pulselessness.
Since the diagnosis, I have had to pay for medical equipment, medication and gas back and forth for physio three times a week. I have not been able to attend physio since September due to lack of money and I now have a huge debt due to this illness.
I am currently on oxygen and waiting for a double lung transplant, but I need to be at a certain weight in order to have the surgery. In order to attain my weight goal, I am in need of a treadmill, as well as the higher cost for healthy food (fruits, veggies are expensive these days) that I cannot afford. I also need to restart the physiotherapy sessions three times a week and I need to pay for medication which is not covered and must be purchased off the shelf. I also have numerous medical appointments in London and Exeter, which is an additional expense for gas as well as meals.
Once my weight goal has been achieved and I receive the call for the lung transplant, I will need to stay in Toronto for three months. I have no family members or friends in the Toronto area, so I will have to pay for housing. After the surgery, I will also have to buy more medical equipment that is very costly as well as medication. All of this on top of my regular household bills and credit cards which are quickly accumulating.
Please donate to help make this surgery happen, so that I can live my life pain free and hopefully return to work helping those in need.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am very grateful for your support!
