Dear Friends,
Hope you and your families are keeping well and safe. Kodagu (Coorg) in south western India has been severely affected with the new strain of covid -19. For the past few years Me and Dr Amrit Nanaiah of Lopamudra Medical Centre have been discussing about improving and reviving primary health care centres in Kodagu. We will continue working on it after the covid situation resolves. In early April, Amrit updated me about the increased number of deaths in coorg due to inadequate access and affordability.
Dr Amrit Nanaiah of LMC with the help of Karuna Trust and a core committee headed by Mr Ganesh Aiyanna has now opened a covid care centre with 30 beds. Treatment Protocols have been provided by Dr Gautham Kalyatanda.
My sister Nishi along with her friends from Singapore have donated 3 – 10 ltr oxygen concentrators. I will provide Dr Amrit Nanaiah with safe standard operating protocols (AGPs and Non AGPs) which have been tried and tested successfully at our practice in London for 12 months now.
Our aim is to save lives of patients and health care workers by improving infrastructure and providing best practice guidelines/PPE and reward low paid staff members with better pay during the pandemic which they really deserve. We should also try and employ their family members and pay towards their kids education in case of any unfortunate event occurs during their work at LMC Covid care centre. We aim to treat all patients free of charge at this centre for as long as possible and to increase capacity in other parts of kodagu as well.
We will make sure every donor knows how their donation is spent on this project.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
Warm Regards
Dr Pavan Bopanna
