We are not fund raising for ourselves but rather an angel that walks among us. Her name is Shirley Zindler and she is a Sonoma County Animal Control Officer who not only rescues animals from the streets and abusive situations she also takes many of them home to heal and find their forever homes. Specializing in pregnant females, Shirley takes in those dogs in other high kill counties who would otherwise be euthanized just because they are pregnant. She whelps the puppies, vaccinates spay and neuters them and opens her home virtually every Sunday on her day off for friends and strangers to come socialize the puppies and meet and greets so she can match the dogs with their forever homes. As if that wasn't enough she also invites her friends, Facebook followers and past adopters to walk with her at the beach on Monday mornings. During those walks she takes the most amazing pictures and posts them on Facebook for those of us who are unable to make it, so we too can enjoy the beauty of shelter dogs running free and playing happily.
Shirley has written a wonderful book called The Secret Life Of A Dog Catcher which chronicles her life as an animal control officer. A portion of her proceeds for the book have gone to animal rescues.
Currently Shirley has a foster Mom who came with two 9 month old puppies one of which has a broken leg and will need surgery. The Mother took Shirley a month to capture and only one week into fostering this family of three the Mother gave birth to another puppy. All of which will be vetted, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, fed and loved. In 8 weeks these dogs will have loving home and Shirley will have another foster. Shirley always has fosters and stopped keeping count long ago after she passed the 200 mark of dogs she has personally fostered and successfully rehomed.
It is our opinion that Shirley should have a fund she can use to pay these expenses rather than using her own money. Can you help support Shirley and the wonderful work she does?
