Standing in the Gap is a ministry for those who have felt marginalized by the church for being gay. For the past two years Standing in the Gap was a group for men who are gay and struggling to find a Christian community that is affirming.
Our goal has never been to show the answer, or the way, but allow people the space to create a safe community, where they can explore what it means to be Gay and Christian.
This group has always, and will continue to be a private online group to protect those people who are in it. It has been a place where people can personally work through and recocile their understandings of faith and sexuality, learning from others who are in the same process.
It has been a tough terrain for the Gay Christian, and this year, we hope to reach out to more people and show that there are other people who identify as Gay and Christian.
Your contribution makes that possible. This year I will be putting together some speaking engagements that will require funding. Our first is a Panel here at New Mexico State University, where I will be joined with other LGBT people in our community, and we will host Alan Chambers, Former and Final president of Exodus International, to open with a keynote address.
It is hard to get funding for these resources through university systems, your contribution will make events like this possible, and future scholarship opportunities for people who lose their jobs, homes, and other resources the moment they come out.
As a human race, and as Christians, we have come a long way, and yet we still aren't at a place where everyone has access to a community of acceptance. Your contribution paves the way for those who are Standing in the Gap, until full affirmation is the new normal.
