Lloyd Hayden Farm Accident Help

Donation protected
On 10/22,  just before noon, Lloyd C. Hayden, 72, of Thorntown, was on foot and cutting weeds in a rural Boone County corn field, when a combine driver did not see him and hit him, trapping both legs inside of the head of the combine.

His son, Boone Hayden, and other farm employees were with him on the scene and took immediate measures to put him in the best condition to survive this accident.  Boone and Jeremy used their own belts as tourniquets until help arrived, likely saving his life.

Lebanon Fire/Thorntown/Sugar Creek Volunteer Fire Department first responders reached him and put a tourniquet on both of his legs that were severely injured.

Emergency responders, including his son-in-law Chuck Batts, freed him from the combine. A medical helicopter landed in the field to pick up him up.  Time from 911 call to lift off was right at 1 hour due to the life-saving procedures taking place on the ground.

During this process, both legs had to be amputated below the knees to save his life and get him out of the combine and into the helicopter.

He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis and their team did an awesome job in stabilizing him.

He will have several additional surgeries to ensure health and the best road to recovery possible.  He will have a long road to recovery and will have many changes in front of them.

As you can imagine, the Boone County community wants to help however they can.  There have been so many offers for help in every way!  The family is very thankful for this!

Many people have tried to create campaigns to raise money (and they are thankful!), but his family would like there to be one trusted tool to do this.  They have set up an account in his name at the Home National Bank.  You can donate there directly at either the Lebanon or Thorntown location or you can give here and it is linked to this account and will go directly to them.

Any funds received will go towards medical expenses and upgrades to accommodate the changes necessary in their home.

We truly appreciate all the efforts taken to wrap your arms around this family during this tough time.  Please continue to pray for healing, peace, recovery, and for the families of everyone impacted from this accident.
