GA College Tours for At Risk Youth

STING, Inc. has been providing quality youth programs for youth in the Middle and High School age group. We are planning our 5th Annual Georgia College Tour to take place during Spring Break week. As a result of the awareness and exposure that our youth receive during our College tours, we expect our youth to embrace higher education. Our youth will be first generation college attendees, making themselves a positive example to other youth in the area and in their families. The graduation rate of the two high schools in our service area is between 55/ 56 percent. Offering our tours affords youth with an incentive to complete high school and attend college. In addition, we offer workshops during our tours where youth learn how a college degree can enhance their lives in the future. We have discovered that this model has afforded youth who might have "thought" of going to college but didn't know where to begin, or that college was for "other people", the opportunity to actually SEE themselves as a college student. We have managed to de-mystify the process for them and have provided a practical solution to a problem some of them and their parents didn't realize they had. Your tax exempt donation will help us to make a difference in the lives of the next generation.
