"Lift Jillian Up!"

Jillian Leigh Duffy is my granddaughter.  She is 9 years old and in the 3rd grade.  Not long before her first birthday she was diagnosed with 'Schizencephaly'.  Schizencephaly is a rare brain disorder that is characterized by abnormal slits or clefts in the cerebral hemispheres.

Despite her limitations, Jillian is always in high spirits.  Her genuine smile and laugh are enough to light up any room she enters.  However, she is often more concered with the happiness of her siblings then she is for herself.  This unselfish and loving attitude is just one example of how special she is.  Jillian loves to play games with family and friends.  Most of all she enjoys any type of arts and crafts activity.

My son Jim and his wife Danielle have 3 daughters. Jillian, Brityn (4) and Elliot (2 months).  They have recently sold their home and are in the process of renovating a home to better fit Jillian's needs.

This rare condition has Jillian diagnosed as a quadriplegic and an essential part of making her life more comfortable is the ability for her to stay in her wheelchair.  Currently her  wheelchair weighs over 200 lbs. and requires someone to carry Jillian up steps to get into the house seperately.  And due to the increasing size of her chair it no longer fits in the family vehicle.  Jillian is picked up out of her chair and lifted into a car seat.  She would be much more comfortable and safe if her chair fit in the car.

While Jim and Danielle are working hard every day to try and help Jillian live as comfortably as possible, the cost keeps growing.  Jillian has special needs insurance that helps pay for her wheelchair,  however that insurance as well as the family's primary insurance will not cover home or vehicle alterations for the wheelchair.  After shopping around for an affordable alternative, they have found that the cost of a lift to get into the house as well as a dependable  wheelchair accessable vehicle that fits the family is $50,000.

My goal is to raise $50,000 or as much as possible to help "Lift Jillian Up!"
