Sevilla Bound: Help Lizzy Combine Chemistry with Culture!
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
My name is Lizzy, and I am a student at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Here's a bit about me: I am a passionate honors Chemistry and Korean double-major who loves culture, learning, and exploration. At UNC, I am an engaged member of the Carolina community, dedicating my time to volunteering at the hospital as a nursing unit volunteer and bringing joy to pediatric patients as Princess Tiana. I also help organize events for the student body and serve as the Vice President of the UNC chapter of the National Organization for Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers. I am also an undergraduate research assistant in the Dempsey Group at UNC. I aim to expand my expertise as an inorganic chemist while exploring electrochemistry, sustainable & physical inorganic chemistry, catalysis, solar fuel production, and more! In the future, I aspire to earn a Ph.D. in bioinorganic chemistry, focusing my research on transition metals within the body to develop innovative medicinal techniques.
Here’s why it’s essential: This summer, I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Seville, Spain, where I can expand my chemistry knowledge by taking an organic chemistry course. Not only would this experience help me attain my goal of learning all I can about chemistry, but it will help me with my dream of attending graduate school and help me succeed in the activities I love most, like doing research! Additionally, traveling abroad would allow me to see new global perspectives and challenge myself to live in a different country!
This study abroad opportunity includes experiences like seeing Seville's “Plaza de España” and Cathedral. I would also have the chance to experience trips to Granada and Córdoba, Spain, fun activities like visiting olive oil factories, watching a flamenco show, and even a cooking class inspired by Spanish cuisine! Studying abroad has always been a goal of mine, and this experience will allow me to expand my knowledge of chemistry in an international setting, connect with global scholars, and grow as both a scientist and a well-rounded individual. However, studying abroad comes with significant costs, including tuition, travel expenses, housing, and daily living.
I’m reaching out to my friends, family, and supporters to help make this dream a reality. No matter how big or small, every donation will bring me one step closer to this life-changing experience. If you cannot donate, sharing this page would mean the world to me!
Thank you for believing in me and supporting my journey—your generosity will help me pursue my passion for chemistry while embracing a new culture. I can’t wait to share my experiences with you all!
