Cancer to Recovery: Help Lizzy Take the Healing Break She Deserves
Elizabeth “Lizzy” Ward has spent her entire life caring for others. Now, she needs our care in return.
Born in England on 4 December 1969, Lizzy moved to Australia as a toddler and grew up in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. Her parents ran a door‑to‑door milk delivery service, instilling in her a deep sense of service, compassion, and hard work.
A Lifetime of Giving
Lizzy devoted her career to midwifery, completing her qualifications in 1990 and 1994 before beginning work in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital labour ward.
For decades, she supported hundreds of families across WCH, Lyell McEwin, and community‑based maternity services. She taught antenatal classes, provided prenatal and postnatal care, offered neonatal support, and guided families through home‑birth journeys with warmth and wisdom.
Lizzy has always been the one lifting others up — never asking for anything in return.
Her Journey
In 2024, Lizzy was diagnosed with breast cancer. After months of chemotherapy, she underwent a double mastectomy in December 2025. She is now in recovery, and thankfully, chemotherapy is no longer required.
The toll of treatment has been immense. Alongside cancer recovery, Lizzy continues to live with the effects of a workplace injury that ended her midwifery career.
On New Year’s Eve, she was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a very weak and unconscious state. When her family arrived, her spirits lifted instantly — a powerful reminder of how deeply connection and hope support healing.
A Dream Worth Making Real
Lizzy has always dreamed of going on a cruise — a short, gentle escape where she can rest, recover, and spend precious time with her children.
That dream is finally within reach: a 4‑day cruise is booked for April 2026.
To make this healing trip possible, we are raising funds to cover:
Flights from Adelaide to Sydney and back for Lizzy and her family ✈️
Onboard expenses so she can relax without financial stress
Recovery essentials, including a new wardrobe after significant weight loss during treatment
Thanks to early generosity, $739 has already been raised, allowing us to secure the cruise deposit. Every additional contribution brings Lizzy closer to a peaceful, restorative experience after an incredibly difficult journey.
Your support — whether big or small — will help give Lizzy the healing break she truly deserves.
