Lizzie’s Army

Lizzie’s Story:
My name is Lizzie and on June 25, 2020 at the age of 24, I was diagnosed with stage 2b Invasive Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

Breast cancer has always been thought of as “an older woman’s cancer” but the fact of the matter is, thats simply not true any more. More and more women under 40 are being diagnosed every day, but you won’t see us on the Making Strides posters. The idea that “someone in their 20’s can’t get breast cancer” is dangerous and antiquated. I started a blog  to help raise awareness and support for young women like me who are receiving this life altering diagnosis. No one is alone and together we can find a cure!

Annie’s Story:
Three friends, Annie, Maddy and Isabelle, turned their shell painting into a business into a fund raiser for breast cancer research after learning that Annie’s 24 year old sister was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in late June.
With not much to do this summer, the girls started painting shells that they found at the beach.

They had big plans for their summer and immediately thought of how she could help. Her friends were immediately ready to be a part of Lizzie’s Army. They made signs and carried their painted shells and table to the corner and got right to work. They talked to everyone that passed by and shared their story. The response was incredible! More of their friends showed up and joined in...The army grew! They raised more than $400 the first day. As the news of her business spread, more children helped. They gathered shells and dropped them off at our house. Some even painted them. Annie hosted a shell painting day and 12 of her friends eagerly showed up. In 3 sales the Annie and her crew raised about $1500. Proceeds will be donated to Making strides Against Breast Cancer, as well as be used to cover bills and medical expenses
