This year on May 10th I lost my hero, my mom, Liz Melton. Over her lifetime she taught me how to work hard for what I want, stand up for what I believe in, enjoy life to its fullest and to always help others in need. My mom always worked and even in her final years she had an online bookstore selling books all around the world. One of the most important joys in her life was riding the city bus. She said it made her open her eyes to the world, seeing more than she could by driving her own car. Sitting next to her neighbors in her own community and learning about their lives, their accomplishments, their struggles and their day to day life. She would call the bus her church. It truly humbled her and made her more thankful for her life and accomplishments. She always helped others; food and blankets to the homeless, a hug when needed and her biggest donations went to women in need. She donated yearly to women in crisis. I can't find a better way to honor my mom than by combining two of her biggest passions - riding the bus and donating to women's crisis centers in Jacksonville. Most women in need don't have transportation to make it to work, interviews, to see family or go to doctor appointments. It is imperative that we help these women. They already have an uphill climb to a better life and to lose a job because they don't have a ride may spiral their life in a very bad direction. This may be a small way to help, but I personally think it will have a huge impact on their lives. I have a called a few women centers and they are actually in desperate need for bus passes and are excited about this opportunity. I've also contacted JTA for support and they are presenting it to the VP's to see what they can contribute. I am asking you to dig in your pockets, wallet, purse, bank account, credit card and make a donation, any size would be appreciated. A 31 day bus pass costs $50.00 for adults which can add up very fast. Please help me help women in crisis in honor of my mom, Liz Melton.
