I'm pledging to run 29 miles on my 29th birthday in two weeks (June 21st) in support of the ACLU. Because I still believe in America, the country my parents fought tooth and nail for. As an American citizen it is my absolute duty to speak up for my Black friends and neighbors with the privilege that I have. I will never really know the struggle that is being Black in this country. What I do know though, is the plight of wanting a better life. As a first-generation American with immigrant parents from Mexico I grew up with stories upon stories of both immigrant hardship and hope which has helped me understand and empathize, and more than anything keeps me going. I am currently consumed by what’s going on and motivated by this hopeful energy. I can’t sit still. So I may as well use this energy for the common good and channel it into what I know best: running. Every penny will go to the ACLU, an org that has always been unrelenting and on the forefront of the most pressing civil rights issues. Contribute only if you can, no obligation at all. Thank you for even getting this far and reading/caring. Would be the best birthday gift ever and you’ll be right alongside me in this run for justice. Thank you. <3 #BLACKLIVESMATTER #JUSTICEFORALL
