Hello, my name is Lizel. I was diagnosed with Nuerofibromatosis when I was 15 years old. Nuerofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on the nerve tissue. The tumors have already spread to my brain, cervical/lumbar spine, and I have been informed that another tumor has formed on my right thigh. I had radiation therapy on July 29th as well as an emergency surgery on September 16th. This is my 39th surgery since being diagnosed when I was only 15 years old. I am at the point now where I can not walk anymore. This information about myself is to give the background for my youngest daughter, Helaena. We have been informed by Helaena's doctors that she has a tumor and she needs Genetic testing. Genetic testing is not covered by our insurance and it will cost us $5,000.
